Top Legal Tech Predictions for 2020

Here today, dead tomorrow.

Sorry, but somebody wiser than Nostradamus said there is nothing certain about the future but death and taxes. Still, everybody loves a prophet — as long as there’s good news.

So here are what others say about legal tech in 2020. I’ll reserve judgment to the bitter end — death or taxes, whichever comes first.

An ‘Awesome’ Year

NBCNews is all pumped up about 2020. They’re predicting synthetic brains, moon mining and more.

“According to a dazzling number of technology predictions that single out the year 2020, it’s going to be one heck of a year,” NBC says.

For legal tech, that means AI will “dazzle” the legal world, everything will be in the cloud, and virtual law firms will be the new normal.

Meanwhile, hackers will have multiplied, cryptocurrency will have replaced real currency, and contracts will be smarter than the lawyers who draft them.

In the Alternative

Reality check: there is a not-so-awesome alternative future. If the Force is real, then so is the Dark Side.

Paralegals, lawyers and judges will lose their jobs to robots (which actually might not be a bad thing). But endless regulations and ediscovery will break the internet, and the president will enact laws via Twitter.

Just let me die before the tax increase.
