For those lawyers that find themselves longing for a different kind of desk job, or maybe one outside of the pits of justice, or trenches, or whatever else battle test lawyers are calling the courts these days, there’s good news! And you don’t even have to leave your desk.
A new partnership between Google and Udacity will offer free online career courses geared toward helping both new and mid-career job seekers. In addition to career “coaching” courses, there will be some technical courses as well. As reported by TechCrunch, the program will help job seekers refresh their resume, write a cover letter, update professional online profiles, and more.
Preparing to Compete
The courses offered by Google and Udacity are geared toward helping job seekers compete in today’s market. And while new job seekers may seem to be benefited the most, anyone who is looking to change careers after a few years in any industry should probably get an idea of the job market in their desired industry. In their statement about the program, Udacity’s VP of Careers specifically mentioned the courses could benefit mid-career professionals and older workers looking to re-enter the job search.
Is It Time for a Change?
Most attorneys are passive observers in the legal tech revolution that is happening around us. Every single day there is something new, or something old repurposed to do something new or novel, and the practice of law gets easier and more complex all at the same time.
While only a handful of lawyers are pioneering the newest in legal tech, even fewer are out there helping to create and shape it. Although entering the world of legal tech may sound attractive and exciting, if you don’t know what you’re getting into, how can you be sure it’ll be a change you want? Or that you’ll be a “right fit.” Fortunately, you can get your feet wet with free online education.
